The Rules (Official & Ours)
The Beer Mile has a proper set of official rules. The format is simple: drink a beer, run a lap, repeat four times. Officially, that means four 355ml (12oz) cans of beer at 5% ABV or above, alternating with four laps of a 400m track. There's even a penalty lap if you can't keep it all down. 😅
For our event, we're keeping the spirit of it alive without being too strict, so here's how we're running it:
✅ Drink before each lap, in the designated drinking zone
✅ No opening your drink until you enter the zone
🥤 Bring whatever fizzy drink or milk you like (355ml per drink), beer is just the classic choice!
🚫 No shotgunning, no straws, no funny business with the cans
🤢 Penalty lap still applies if you vomit (rules are rules!)
If you want to run it properly and record an official time, check out the full rules at beermile.com. The current world record is an astonishing 4:28 - set by Canadian Corey Bellemore. We won't judge you if you take a little longer.
